Scratchers Creek Market Meats and Seafood
Our Heritage
Josh Newsome and Jeff Kent, owners of Scratchers Creek Market, are multi generation farmers on adjoining family farms. Their Dads were first cousins and dedicated cattle farmers. They still farm the same property their fathers farmed in Warren and Glascock County, Georgia. In this historical area, a strong spring welled up from the ground. Native Americans camped for generations. More recently, revolutionary and civil war battles were fought to claim the creek and fresh water supply as their own. The original native Indian name for this creek, KANUGU’LA, translated to “Scratchers” in English. When it came time to name the store, they could think of no other name that spoke directly to their heritage. From there, Scratchers Creek Market was born.
